you must lift up the civic with the driver side tire off then u gotta get the axle loose u might need to remove the whole left side suspention to free up the axle then u gotta get the alternator loose and remove it and then reverse.

/ The alternator can be removed by lifting front of car and driver side suspention lowered so that tire is just touching, then the alternator will have clearance to slide by driver side axle from under vehicle without removing any suspention. My son and I just did this so it should work on yours. (Aug 21, 2008)

Just did it, Need to partially remove the driveshaft on the drivers side. It only comes out the bottom (barely). Worth getting a shop manual from the library. Need to remove the bottom of the strut assembly and the bottom ball joint as well to get the axel loose.

Remove ground cable from battery. Start by jacking car up so driver side front wheel is off the ground. Remove that wheel. The only way to get the alternator out is through that wheel well. Remove the nut and bolt from the bottom of the alternator. Mine was frozen in and took a lot of effort to remove. Then remove the bracket that is attached to the engine block. This has to come off to get the alternator out. One more adjusting bolt at the top needs to be removed. This is accessed from above. Remove the small nut that holds an electrical connection on top of the alternator. Then remove the electrical plug that is in the side of the alternator. Take the alternator out from the bottom of the car thru the wheel well. Repeat for install. capybudd@aol.com
