First thing you should do is drain out as much fuel as you can. Gas isn't just expensive, it is heavy! Under the truck there should be a plastic shield that covers the fuel tank. Remove the four bolts and set the shield aside. Open the fuel door on the side of the truck and remove the bolts that hold the filler tube in place (this is the spot where you fill the tank). The filler tube should now be free from the truck and only attached to the fuel tank. Unscrew the bolt holding the ground wire, it will be attached to the filler tube. Using a hydraulic jack to support the tank, remove the two straps that hold the fuel tank to the frame. Slowly lower the fuel tank and few inches at a time until you can reach up onto the top of the fuel tank to disconnect the wiring. Once the wiring is clear, drop the tank down to the floor and you are done. This is a big chore to do. If you are dropping the fuel tank to change out a fuel pump, you could always unbolt the box and slide it back. This will expose the top of the fuel tank and give you access to the fuel pump without having to take it all apart. Just make sure you have something tall enough to support the back end of the box. Good luck!
