The way that the renaissance revolutionised European art & thought was that before the renaissance, people mainly only painted things to do with religion. Pictures were also mainly painted in 2D. When the renaissance occured, these things changed.

before the renaissance art and daily life revolved around religion. when the rennaissance came about religion was less focused on and life as a human, men just as they are became most important. life became more natural and the idea that man don't have to be saints to be good people arose. the renaissance was a time of expression. BUT the renaissance was and 'elite' movement. meaning that only the very rich could experience and gain from it, it did not reach everyone since it was a very lavish lifstyle.

the renaissance focused more on Humanism, humanists would study ancient texts in the original, and appraise them through a combination of reasoning and empirical evidence.

how it revolutionized art was that there was a developement of perspective. and painters would study light and shadow and make the painting real and natural.

along with humanism came a more secular idealism. where religion is not everything.

but even though the rennaissance brought all these new humanist and secuarlist ideas of thinking, itt took a very long time for this kind of thiking to be the main kind of thinking since it was only and elite movement and not a mass movement. very few experience the renaissance. even though it spread all over Europe only the truly lucky could embellish in its wonderments
