Samuel Pepys died on 26th May 1703. The exact cause of death is not recorded as medical science was not so well advanced in those days, however from a young age he suffered from stones in his urinary tract and was almost never without pain, after he died the post-mortem examination showed that his left kidney was completely ulcerated; seven stones, weighing four and a half ounces (130 g), also were found and his bladder was gangrenous.
