What were the seagulls saying in Finding Nemo? Many thought - because they were Sydney seabirds - they were all screeching "Mate!". And because, well, it was funnier. No, says director Andrew Stanton (now maker of Wall-E). It was "mine". But he understands the confusion.
"I get with a thick Australian accent if you said 'mate' it would sound the same way. When Nemo was at its height our receptionist got a phone call once from Australia. There was a bar fight about to happen. Half of them were debating that it was 'mine' and the other half were debating it was 'mate' so she had to prevent a fight."
Mark: It could be that, or it could be "mate".
