Grapes originate from the Near East and were one of the most common fruit in the Mediterranean already in Antiquity. The Romans ate plenty of grapes and used them to make wine.

Yes, they ate grapes and grape byproducts. Grapes were one of the main dessert and snack foods in Rome. Their various types of wines were made from the various types of grapes they cultivated. They drank Grape Juice and in some instances the pulp of grapes, grape juice or wine was used in medical concoctions.
