Quite often yes. Though you should forget about it as portrayed in the old western movies. Typically a whoop would be a signal to spring an ambush or to rush a position.

The Great Plains Indians would also loose battle cries to both bolster confidence as well as to intimidate an enemy.

Why were western War Hawks so eager for war with Britain in 1812?

The War Hawks supported going to war with Great Britain for a variety of reasons, mostly because of the British interference with American shipping. The War Hawks also believed that the British were causing American Indians on the frontier to attack American settlements. They also wished to invade Canada and make it part of the United States.== == The War Hawks supported going to war with Great Britain for a variety of reasons, mostly because of the British interference with American shipping. Why were the native people in American colonies called Indians?

Columbus was a Spanish explorer whose intention was to find a route to India by going west because the Ottoman Empire was heavily guarding the Eastern side. When Columbus reached land, he was in what we call the West Indies but assumed he was in India so he erroneously referred to them as Indian or in his language (Spanish) : Los Indios Despite this some people still continue to refer to Native Americans as "Indians" even though it is obvious to us that Indians are really from the other part of the world and that Native Americans are not related to them at all. Most people use the term "Native American" because it is politically correct as opposed to "Indian" which is actually a mistake but "Indian" is still widely used erroneously by both Americans and non-American

How did the First battle of the bull run shatter the belief that the civil war would be a quick union win?

The Battle of Bull Run showed that it was going to be bloody and long. Leading up to the battle the newspapers and conversations of the time talked/wrote about the glory of war and how the men were "heroes" for getting ready for war. On the Sunday that the battle took place families and other people came to the battle site to watch the battle take place, but what they didn't count on is that a battle moves around and that men would die and get wounded. It really opened many eyes to see what war was really about and it showed that it wasn't an event that was "fun." Many of the men, on both sides, threw down their guns and ran screaming from the battle. Barnes and houses were taken over for medical help and to hold the dead. Blood was everywhere as well as the smoke and smells of battle. It wasn't very pleasant and gave a insight about the future.
