absolutely!! i'm 28, been working in auto shops for 6 years and was diagnosed 4 months ago with type 1. pedialyte has been an absolute lifesaver!! i used to survive on gatorade, 2-3 liters a day. that's too much sugar for being insulin dependent. i switched to pedialyte and the walmart brand (which tastes awful at first, definitely an acquired taste) but works just as well and without the excessive sugars found in sports drinks (25g carbs/liter in pedialyte vs about 65g carbs/liter in gatorade). i started diluting pedialyte with water to about 50/50 which seems to be just as effective to help against dehydration.
In a worst case scenario can an adult use Pedialyte solution?
An adult can use Pedialyte even if it's not a worst case scenario. Using Pedialyte to get electrolytes and for rehydration can be pretty expensive for adults, though, because it is formulated for infants. There are products that are similar to Pedialyte that are formulated for adults, and mixtures that you can make at home to achieve the same goals at Pedialyte achieves.

When my piggy was sick, the vet told me I could give her pedialyte. This helped her stay hydrated. Also you can give them Gatorade or Powerade. But Pedialyte is the best. Hope this helps.
Why does pedialyte have to be used within 48 hours of opening even if it's refrigerated?
Pedialyte is sterile, it is also mostly sugar. You will get microcopic bacterial/mold growth if it is open more than 48 hours.
