∙ 13y agoAll I know is that in German, the large intestine is called "Dickdarm", literally "thick intestine" while the small intestine is the "Dünndarm", "thin intestine". While a lot shorter, the "large" intestine is thicker, conversely the "small" intestine is thinner albeit a lot longer. It's a slightly skewed use of "large" and "small" here, it seems.
Why the large intestine shares a designation with two vertical dots used as punctuation mark is beyond me though, any clues welcome.
