The vacuum pull off for the choke on the carburetor may be bad or out of adjustment.
hard to start misfires idles rough or not at all lack of power or acceleration poor fuel economy
I have 1998 a Lincoln town car with the same problem.. It idles rough when you start, then smooths out once it warms up and you give it gas. From what I am reading its either an oxygen sensor or you have vacume leak in one of your hoses by the manifold.
mass air flow (maf) causes the running ruff but not really the stalled start my z and many others have this same problem
I'd start with a basic tuneup if it has not been done in awhile. Then I'd clean the fuel injectors.
Im having the same problem. Either the cold start things bad or the timings off or both...
I noticed rough idle on a 2001 MGM and what seemed like transmission slip while going uphill. I replaced the spark plugs. Both problems went away.
A PCV or connecting hose problem can cause great issues with a 1997 Nissan pickup idling. In fact, this can keep it from running, even if it does start, and the engine turns over.
Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) Smokes... But Don't Start... It's Bad For You!
Worn valve guides? New answer : Worn valve guides WILL cause some what of a rough idle and engine would smoke at all times. If engine smokes at start up only and then quites then your problem would be the VALVE SEALS.
I also wish someone would answer this question as my 1997 Ford contour does the same thing. It shakes and vibrates very bad when it idles and it idles really low. They set the idle up to make it so it wouldn't die so now when I start it it revs up really bad then it idles down then it idles down to low and shakes I also wish someone would answer this question as my 1997 Ford contour does the same thing. possibly a engine temp sensor. need more info, this is a good start.
Sounds like a head gasket or a cracked head. White some usually means coolant is getting into the cylinder.
