As I understad the question I am reading it as so. Your father had a power of attorney over your bank account. Your father died and you wish to find out what has happened regarding your bank account. First your father would no longer be your attorney in fact do to his death. If this was something that you did you can often revoke a Power of Attorney and then you would have full control over the account. If this was court ordered do to some sort of legal incapacity that made you unable to handle your financial affairs a new POA needs to be assigned and they can take over your account.

If you know where the account was held you should visit a branch of the bank and inquire about the status of your account. You should bring identification with you and a copy of your father's death certificate. It is more likely your father held the account as a trustee unless you, as an adult, granted him a POA.

If you have no information at all about the account look through the area where your father kept his bills and other mail and see if you can find any bank statements for a "trustee account". You could ask other family members for any details about the existence of an account they may remember or where your father did his own banking.

If the account had something to do with a court case you can visit the court and ask to review the file.

Answer: In some jurisdictions if there is some proof that the account was made a joint account only for purposes of convenience then the assets in the account would become a part of the estate. Many people leave particular instructions regarding joint accounts in their Wills either stating that the account is to go to the joint owner or that it was only made joint for convenience.
