High uric acid can cause the development of what is called gout. Uric acid is produced when the body metabolises purines from foods such as animals and plants that are made up of cells. If the kidney is not able to filter out enough uric acid then uric acid in the blood reaches saturation point and starts to form crystals, typically the first place that starts to hurt is the joint in the big toe however it can affect many other joints of the body. and damage the kidney if ignored.
