Southern Oil Stores was a Jacksonville, FL based gasoline marketer that was founded in 1929 or so, and operated stations as far west as Jackson, MS and as far north as Richmond, VA. They used the United coupon program, along with other retailers (worked like S&H Green Stamps) from at least the early postwar era as late as 1955, possibly earlier and later. Last Dixie Vim stations in the chain closed in the 1980s, some individual stations taken over by local owners and lasted longer.

Sugar ration coupons from World War II are no longer officially redeemable for sugar as there is are no entities to process the coupon and reimburse the grocer or supplier. Ho…wever, they are worth some negotiable value per se as a World War II historical or nostalgia item. (However, if you were to take one to an independent grocer who collected World War II memorabilia, they may quite cheerfully give you a package of sugar for the coupon!)
