yes. labor to me felt just like period cramps. i did not even recognize it was labor, got to the hospital 30 minutes before my daughter was born. no time for the epidural so i would not recommend waiting until the last minute to go to the hospital.
According to my doctor this is just your body preparing to give birth - the cramping could be helping the baby to descend lower into your pelvis, and helping your cervix to keep dilating.
I am 39 weeks also, 1 cm dilated as of yesterday, and having the same symptoms.
If they get progressively stronger, your water breaks, or you begin getting distinct contractions that are coming at a regular interval, go get checked.
Otherwise be happy that your body is doing some of the work it needs to with just minor cramping - much better than having to make all this progress in labor!
Good luck to you - we're almost there!
I would get to an emergency room if I were you, especially if this is your first child.
You shouldn't be having sex when you are dilated and or after 9 months pregnant. It could be dangerous to the unborn child. As for your question, It probably could bring on labor.
It means you will probably go into labor soon. I've heard of women being dilated 3cm and not going into labor for weeks. As a reference, you must be dilated to 10cm before the doctors or midwifes will allow you to push.
you can be dilated for months before you actually go into labor.
The baby probably isn't ready yet. Where I went to the hospital if you were 5cm dialated they would keep you and induce labor. you can be zero dilated and be in labor. As soon as your muscles start contracting you are in labor and have pains.
Actually you are in the Latent phase of labor.
Call your OBGYN
They say having sex helps , a lot of walking helps. you can talk to your Dr. he/she can set up a date to induce.
i have been 1 cm for 3 weeks now! I dont think that how dilated you are really matters unless you are in active labor!
Yes, they will give you a large dose of magnesium which works as a muscle relaxer to stop your labor, then they will give you a smaller continuous dose to prevent you from going back into labor. I was 30 weeks pregnant, 3cm dilated and 80% effaced and they were very successful in stopping my labor.
The onset of labor can be determined by measuring how much the cervix has dilated.
Irritation from the doctors figures checking the cervix, or your in labor.
definatly!! sounds like baby is getting ready! good luck x
