I have three bristlenose catfish, one old male that has been alone all his life, and two young females. when I moved the females in, I moved in three other catfish, a bit bigger than fry. The large male killed the three young ones, and later I had to move one of the females because of the male. I recently moved the other one too, and the loner female didn't like it much. now they live happily together though. I think they bristlenose become more hostile the longer they live by themselves, but it depends on what sort of catfish you have
no they dont .
No, catfish will eat other fish, shrimp, water bugs, but no grass
People, and other catfish if the one is big enough to eat the other... that's about all I could think of.
Some catfish are commercially fatmed, but there are other "commercial fish" that are farmed.
Yes if the other fish can fit into its mouth! My catfish recently ate the 5" cichlid in the 90G tank. The cichlid was a little bit larger than the catfish when I first bought it (about 4") about 1.5 year ago, now the catfish is 9".
I do not know of any catfish species that have poisonous whiskers. The whiskers are for feeling and tasting stuff on the bottom of the lake, pond or ocean. However, most catfish do have spines on dorsal (top) and side fins. It is possible to hold a catfish without getting stabbed by one of these sharp fins. If a catfish does happen to fin you and break skin, make sure you wash the wound thoroughly, especially if the catfish was a freshwater variety. If it is a saltwater catfish and you get finned by one, though it may hurt, wash your wound with ocean water. If the wound from a fin is deep, go to the ER and have them take a look to make sure the catfish did not injure any important parts of your body.
Blue catfish can get almost 8 feet long but other species in china can get even longer.
The best tasting catfish is the Flathead catfish. The best meat on a Flathead is the belly meat. I believe Flatheads taste better because they mainly feed on live bait, where other catfish eat just about anything.
i think
they care for each other
That is a broad question. Small catfish will be eaten by bigger fish, be it in the sea or in freshwater. They will also be eaten by other bigger catfish, so the answer is catfish are both predator and prey.
Yes, certain types of smelly cheese can be used to catch freshwater catfish.
