Scientists and researchers have been searching for an effective HIV vaccine for many years. Because of HIV's ability to mutate so rapidly however, it has been difficult to develop an effective vaccine. Studies continue, but increasingly the opinion is that an effective vaccine is still many years away.

But even when there is an effective HIV vaccine, it will not mean that there is a cure for HIV. A vaccine will help to keep uninfected people uninfected but will not directly benefit people who are already living with HIV/AIDS. The ongoing advances in HIV treatment are increasingly becoming what could be considered to be a "cure" for people living with HIV/AIDS. These medications, when taken as directed, can help diminish the impact that HIV has on the body and allow people living with HIV to live long and productive lives.

Can aids can be prevented with a new vaccine called azt?

AZT is a medicine used to treat HIV. It is not a vaccine. Sometimes HIV drugs can be used before exposure to the virus and reduce the risk of infection. AZT is commonly used by HIV-positive women during pregnancy to prevent passing HIV to their babies. The new born babies also use a small dose of AZT afterwards as an additional protection. The best way for women to use AZT in this way is in a combination with at least two other HIV drugs.

What does AZT break mean?

It means the actors have to take a break from what is going on to take their AZT medication since they (Roger and Mimi) both have AIDS. Correction:: They clearly do not have AIDS they have the HIV virus.... two different things(= watch the movies closely sweetie(= Further Correction: HIV is a virus that leads to AIDS. AZT medication holds AIDS off for a while. In the movie, Roger doesn't take an AZT break, does he? No, he doesn't, Mimi does. Therefore, he might have AIDS. Angel has AIDS too, as does Collins. Mimi has HIV. THE END. Another Correction: In the movie, Roger does take an AZT break with Mimi at the life cafe
