Why won't you answer my question?

If you feel like your question has not been properly answered within a reasonable amount of time, there are many things you can do to find an acceptable resolution.

You can:

• Reword your question. Sometimes, a question can be too general or timely. Rewording your question will quickly resolve these issues.
• Spell check your question, and edit errors.
• Look around for similar questions that have already been answered. This actually happens automatically when the question is first asked. Make sure that you merge your original question properly.
• See if you can find the answer somewhere else, but make sure you come back here and answer it so that others can learn from your work.
• And, always ask a supervisor for help when in doubt.

It's not that we don't want to answer your questions, it might just be that nobody is online right away that has the answer to your questions.

To get the fastest response, ensure that the question makes sense and is grammatically correct. Putting it in the appropriate category will also direct the question to the people who can best answer it.
Well, some questions are not yet answered so I am trying to answer most of the ones that aren't answered.

I just did ! Seriously though - you need to bear in mind that your question may not have been seen by the right person to answer it. Not all contributors are on-line 24/7 - so someone who might have been able to answer your original question may not have seen it.

This is a volunteer site, we don't have to do anything.

It may be that your question hasn't been spotted yet, or hasn't been spotted by anyone with the skills needed to answer it.

Or it may be one of those half-baked questions which can't be answered on account of being too vagues.

Please be patient, and in the meantime, try answering a few questions, just for fun. Remember that we are all users just like you; there is no big staff being paid to answer questions. This site is a great deal of fun, but for questions you need answers to right away, it may not be the best choice.

Here are the top reasons a question isn't being answered:

• You're not waiting long enough - unlike Google, where you get an instant response, this website works by someone who actually knows the answer coming online and spotting the question, then answering it. If you want instant results, go to your search engine instead.
• Your question is too vague - questions like "What was he like?" or "How did she die?" are too vague because nobody knows who or what you're talking about. You must be specific if you want a good answer.
• Your question is multiple choice - this isn't the sort of website you can ask multiple choice questions because you have to include the choices in your question, and the question length is limited. "Which of the following statements is true?" can never be answered because we don't know what the statements are.
• Your question is already answered - when you first ask a question, the software will prompt you with something that sounds similar to your question. If you just click "Submit question" without seeing if the question actually is similar, you're probably not going to get an answer because the original question is already answered and nobody likes repeating themselves over and over. See if your question is already on the website before you post it again with slightly similar wording.
• You answered your own question - Some people think they can "comment" in the answer box with more information (or multiple choice answers) but that just makes your question answered and people looking for unanswered questions won't even see it.
• Your question is too broad - questions that would take an entire book to answer, like "What are the names of all the animals on Earth?" or "How does the human body work?" won't be answered because it would just take too much information to answer them. Narrow your question down and you'll get a good answer most of the time.
• Your question is inappropriate - this is a G-Rated website, so we're not going to post questions like "What is the street value of _____?" or "How do you build a bomb?" We also screen for cyber-bullying questions and questions that are obviously just someone's idea of a silly joke (like "What am I doing right now?").
