On rare occasions you can encounter a false positive due to improper testing, expired pregnancy tests, rare medical conditions such as certain types of cancer, evaporation lines or a chemical pregnancy.To ensure the best results: * Take the test in the morning, if possible, because your hCG (pregnancy hormone) levels are at it's highest * Don't drink a bunch of fluids before taking the test because it will dilute your urine and can affect the results * Take the test no more than 1-2 days before expected period. Although some test say that you can see results up to 5 days before your missed period, the percentage of accuracy is very low. * urinate for as long as possible on the foam-like strip * wait for the results! the test is designed to be positive if there is a certain chemical in your urine. you need to be ten days pregnant for the test to be accurate. I have gotten positive tests three days in and then the woman miscarriaged and the test was positive for two weeks after the miscarriage. hope that helps joymaker rn

; Chemical Pregnancy : A chemical pregnancy is basically an early miscarriage. Research has shown that half of all first pregnancies end in miscarriage. Due to the high sensitivity of home pregnancy tests, many women catch early pregnancies but end up going on to have their periods due to a chemical pregnancy. :

;

Evaporation Lines

: While technically not a true pregnancy, some pregnancy tests leave a faint evaporation line as the urine crosses the test. This faint very light grey evaporation line in the test area is often interpretted as a positive result. ;

Chemical Interference

: Drugs that have the pregnancy hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in them can cause incorrect results in home pregnancy tests. The Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in them may be responsible for the false positive pregnancy test. If you have had an HCG shot due to infertilty treatments, you need to be sure the shot is out of your system before you attempt to use early pregnancy tests

You took a pregnancy test and it came out positive you are also almost 2 months late on your period is this a phantom pregnancy?

If your pregnancy test is positive then most likely you are. You would be more likely to get a false negative rather than a false positive. If you are unsure, you can request a beta HCG test from your doctor. This will measure the HCG hormone in your blood system which is an indicator of pregnancy. The pregnancy test is positive and you haven't had a period in two months. I see nothing to indicate that this is a 'phantom' pregnancy other than maybe wishful thinking. I've been told that the home test kits may give a false negative, but that they never indicate a false positive.

Can you pass a home pregnancy test and not be pregnant?

It is possible to get a false positive on a pregnancy test, but highly improbable. I once went in the doctor after taking a home pregnancy test and the doctor basically said that he would not test again, because they use the same test and I was pregnant. But, I did get a false positive as a teenager and the 2nd test was negative. Take a 2nd test.

Can a positive test result be false?

False positive pregnancy tests are VERY RARE! False negatives are more common, especially when the test is done too soon after conception. If you have a negative pregnancy test and don't start your period redo the test in 3 days.
