Health issues like this aren't very "treatable" by pet owners, and a delay my cost the animal part or all of his vision in that eye. If finances are an issue, call around and make arrangements. A number of vets will work with you. Should you be fortunate enough to live near a veterinary school (which almost certainly has a teaching hospital as an adjunct), by all means call them. They'll be less expensive and they do exceptional work. Also, the veterinary students who staff the clinic (under the supervision of one or more senior residents and a credentialed veterinarian) need training opportunities. It's a win-win-win for your dog, for you and for the veterinary school.
