Why would a Dodge Neon's back floor and trunk be filled with water after a rain storm?

The water runs around in the trunk lid ditch and goes down behind the tail lights. We sealed any openings above the tail lights and also took them out and put a sealer around the rubber mounting on the back of them.. We have had no more water in the car.
AnswerI had the same problem when i had some new euro tail lights installed at an after-market shop....got some clear silicone and went around the seals at the top of the trunk and around the lights.....no problem since. AnswerNot all Neons are because of the tail light.You can spend hundreds of dollars to try to find the solution to the issue, or do a quick 15 minutes fix!
My Mazda Milennia also to some extend had the same issue. However, it had a drain plug on the bottom of the reserve wheel.
Unplugging the drainplug would allow the trunk to be drained.
While the Neon does not have a drain plug, it's very easy to make one!
Just get yourself a metal drill, sandpaper, and some paint touchup. Drill a hole in the trunk (I personally drilled one in a place that already was pretty rusted).
Sand off the rust, and sharp edges.
Paint the hole and naked metal to prevent it from rusting(if you don't have paint, get some of your wife's nailpolish, that'd be good enough).
Now, you did not stop the water from entering the Neon, but you did allow it to exit.
Ever since I've done this 15 minutes fix for my wife, we have no water issues anymore, no smelly fungus, no more wet couches!
