Because of their botanical interest and scientific import poinsettias (Euphorbia pulcherrima) were brought into the United States of America.
Specifically, the plant is native to southwestern Mexico and to Central America. In Mexico, the plant was known to and appreciated by both the indigenous inhabitants and the subsequent, Spanish-speaking settlers. But it was unknown north of the U.S.-Mexico border until 1828. In that year, Joel Roberts Poinsett (March 2, 1774 - December 12, 1851) began sending poinsettia specimens back to his greenhouses in South Carolina and to select botanist friends. Poinsett discovered the plant in the course of his duties as first U.S. Minister to Mexico, 1825-1830.
Poinsettias were brought into the United States by Joel Robert Poinsett in 1825. He brought this plant from Mexico, where poinsettias are native plant or shrub that can grow to 15 feet in height .Poinsettias are usually associated with the Christmas season.
Thank you for watering my poinsettias.

poinsettias
Red Poinsettias bloom in the cool, dark times of the year, when nights are long. Poinsettias require darkness and dryness to grow, as sunlight and excess water can damage the plants.
Poinsettias are called flores de nochebuena because they are flowers that are beautiful at night.
