Because of their gas pedals...they get stuck.
No one had died due to the recall but 56 have died in recalled cars.

As of Jan. 29th Toyota said it will take in and repair all recalled Toyota vehicles that have the sticky accelerator peddle problem. Toyota has said that it will be installing a metal bar into these cars to stop friction of the peddle and eliminate the stickiness. This can be done at Toyota dealers as well as Toyota factories. A couple factories have currently stopped new cars in order to train employees in the installation these bars.
