¿Why is any god important to anyone? On one side they help make sense of forces, either natural, civic, or personal, that would other wise be too raw to understand, especially the forces of life and death. On the other side, they give us a goal to achieve, either in physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual prowess, or some combination of each. Such gods might set an example of ethical or martial standard, such as the stories of the gods conquering the raw, natural forces (called titans, jotuns, asuras - ¿Translate as emotional or social chaos, if you will?) so their powers could be brought to benefit human society. They might even aid in our maturity, such as following the teachings and examples of the Buddha or the Christ, so one might realize, this, too, could be me.
