While aluminum is the most abundant metal in the crust, in terms of the whole composition of Earth, aluminum only comes in fourth place after iron, magnesium, and nickel. Earth is a differentiated object, meaning denser materials are generally found closer to the center. Most of the iron and nickel, which are quite dense, sank to Earth's core. The magnesium-rich and iron-rich minerals, which are generally fairly dense, make up the bulk of the mantle. The less dense aluminum-rich minerals were therefore left closer to the surface and essentially float on the denser inner layers.

Which element is the most abundant metal in Earths crust?

The most common chemical elements in the crust are oxygen (46.6%), silicon (27.7), aluminum (8.1), iron (5.0), calcium (3.6), potassium (2.8), sodium (2.6), and magnesium (2.1).Oxygen is a non-metal and silicon is a metalloid - so the most common metal is aluminum.

aluminum that's aluminum for the brits aluminum is the most abundant metal in the earth's crust, it is never found free in nature. All of the earth's aluminum has combined with other elements to form compounds.
