The most common method of contaminating yourself is to get ANYTHING on your hands.

By test you can be sure that it will cover your whole body in less than 24 hours ... worse than that, in minutes it will have been spread all over your face.

The major reason is to protect your health. Many lab chemicals, reagents and specimens can leave a residue of toxin, poisonous or infectious material on your hands. Washing your hands prior to leaving the lab can remove many of these potential residues, meaning that your hands won't become carriers of disease to yourself, your family or your friends as you go about your life.

If you don't wash your hands after doing an experiment you will have chemicals all over your hands. Then if you put your hand in your mouth you will be eating the chemical , and chemicals can make you ill or even poison you.

Some chemicals can be extremely toxic if they come in contact with the skin or are ingested. It is always a good idea to wash your hands after handling them in order to help prevent accidental ingestion or injury. It is also possible to rub your eyes with some lingering chemicals on your hands, which could cause injury to your eyes, or even blindness.
