  • Failure during and after marriage counseling is caused by one or both couples not wanting to save the marriage in the first place. Particularly men object to airing out their private lives to a counselor where women are more open and men can be fearful of being blamed for the problems in the marriage so if they do go to a few meetings with the counselor they generally do not continue to go because some men simply blame the wives. Most women are romantics; strong; steadfast and the glue that tends to hold the family together rather than men so many women will try to fix what is wrong with the marriage where men will either go into denial or simply don't want to try because they don't have the staying power. It also depends on how serious the problems are in the marriage. Example: If one spouse is constantly cheating and lying; they may have an alcohol or drug related problem then marriage counseling seldom works. Men also feel that their maleness is being challenged by having a counselor tell them what to do. Society has changed and it appears there are more people living together than getting married and some humans have been spoiled with material things in their lives or life is often easier for perhaps the male or female to throw away their spouse like a piece of garbage then take the energy to save the marriage.

Will counseling help your marriage?

Women are more accepting of marriage counseling than men. Some men will go to counseling and try, but a larger percent will go just to please their spouse and often times only half listen to what the counselor is saying. However, seeing a marriage counselor is a good idea and if your spouse does not want to cooperate then you will have to make a decision whether to stay in the marriage or not.

How many same-sex couples in the United States want to marry?

When experts estimate the number of same-sex couples that will marry in state once same-sex marriage is legalized, they generally use fifty percent of the number of same-sex couples reported in the census. If this calculation is used on a national basis, approximately 280,000 of the US's (2008) 564,743 same-sex couples will choose to marry when legal marriage is available. Already in that year, 100,000 couples reported to the census bureau that they are already in a relationship they consider to be marriage. This presumably included civil unions and domestic partnerships, since the actual number of same-sex marriage licenses issued in the US was nowhere near that many in 2008.

How can you be certain that your spouse will not go behind your back and cheat again?

If it was a one time affair then there is more hope that cheating will not occur again. Individuals do not know themselves 100 percent so no one can predict 100 percent if a mate will cheat again. There is one way to do this and this is to seek marriage counseling to help the marriage to become stronger and if the spouse that is cheating resists then they may well cheat again.
