It is a Palace, this is incorporated in the name. a Palace is the Royal residence. a Castle is usually a fortified form of Palace. The Russians do no distinguish between Palace and Castle but combine the two in Kremlin- originally a sort of fortified Manor House- Usually we mean the one in Moscow- but viewers of Anastasia know the Kremlin Winter Palace in St. Petersburg was the very job site, of the Russian Royal Family- and the suburban Tsarkoe Selo- roughly Imperial Park.
