The unfortunate answer is that much of the hate came out of 9/11. People hate and are afraid of what they don't understand so some will see any brown/beige face and immediately think "terrorist," when in reality, a very very small percentage of Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Indians, Pakastanis, Afghans and Middle Easters are involved in terrorist activity. After September 11th, we were headed to New York and the TSA agents wouldn't even let us take my baby brothers bottle with milk in it on the plane. I often wonder if it had been different with another race.

Is calling an Indian boy an Indian a racist comment that should be punished by placing the child in isolation?

Maybe Not Racist but PunishableI don't believe it is a racist comment if it was just stated that he is an Indian, but then I don't believe in a lot of things that are politically correct and incorrect today. I suppose it might depend on the way it was said, though. A lot of times tone and context means a lot when speaking. Removing the allegation of it being a racist comment, there might be reason for punishment, though. For example, if I said to Jose, "You are a Mexican, aren't you?" it's just asking about his nationality. However, if I said to Mikey, "You're a slimey no-good poor white boy who will never amount to anything," it is insulting and serves to put Mikey down. The second comment certainly deserves punishment, or at the very least an adult explaining why it was wrong to say such a mean and cruel thing to another human being, and the boy making an apology for the comment, whether racist or not.So, racist comment or not, punishment would depend a lot on the context in which the Indian boy was called an Indian.
