If your tomato plants are not producing anything (except blossoms), you might have a pollination problem, or you might have planted seeds from a store-bought tomato that have been cross-pollinated and are more or less sterile. This presumes that they are blossoming but are not producing fruit.

If, on the other hand, your tomato plants are producing fruit but are performing poorly, they are underfed, underwatered or you have not pruned them properly. Make sure you feed them a good general purpose fertilizer two or three times after the plants have developed, and most importantly, prune them heavily!!! You must remove all the leafing branches except for the top three or four at all times during the growth of the plant or you will grow nothing but leaves and a few underdeveloped puny tomatoes.

This means that you will be removing branches or suckers or both every day throughout the growing season. Do not remove the producing growths, just the leafy branches. And please note this does not apply to Tiny Tims and other dwarfed plants as they grow so branchy they are nearly impossible to prune; these plants will produce hundreds of tiny tomatoes without any pruning whatsoever.

How old your pumpkin is might be the problem. A pumpkin produces food after 1-2 years; the leaves taste good boiled for the meantime though!
