Hi, My 10 month old male budgie has started screeching and shouting in the mornings, we usually let him out but however when he does come out he continues, first i thought that this was a phase and that he would grow out of it very soon but this has been going on for months now. He has perfect health and is very fit for a bird. I just cant quite understand why he is shouting? For a couple of days now we have put him in a different room to calm down but he still continues. I just want to know if there is anyway of stopping this and why he is doing this? Recently i have also took away a few of his toys, one being his favorite, only because he was mating with it. I had read online about all of this stuff and i am still stuck with what to do. I would just like him to stop screeching and just to calm down, sometimes his screeching can go on for hours on end. I am trying to get him a new toy and lower his hormone levels so he calms down a bit. I do need a bit of help on how to do that also. Thankyou and i would really appreciate it, if u could help make him stop screeching!
If a budgie screeches something is general threatening them or they feel threatened. The screeching could be in relation to the budgie trying to protect its toys if it sees its toys as a mate. Like any other animal a budgie goes through mating season and will differ in behaviours. A budgie may shred more paper and things as a way of collecting things for its nest. It is common behaviour for a budgie going through different hormones to try mate with its human or toys if it is a single budgie.
The girl budgie would attack the new boy budgie and not the old girl budgie because she is used to the other girl budgie and is not familiar to the new boy budgie.

Yes, the word 'screeching' is a gerund, a verbal noun, the present participle of the verb to screech that functions as a noun. The present participle of the verb is also an adjective (screeching tires).Example as a noun: "She was startled by that horrible screeching she heard."
