If everything is connected and working correctly, there shouldn't be (probably). The purpose of a switch is to interrupt current.

-Is this new? Has it been wired correctly? Are you sure?

-How are you measuring this? Is the amount of current flowing within the error margin of your measuring equipment? Are you measuring correctly?

-Is there a "night light" feature to the switch (LED/small light that will always be on when the switch is off)?

-Is this a dimmer switch? Is it actually off, or just turned down so the lights don't appear to be one?

-Is current balanced between the neutral and the phase wire (ie do you have something causing a low magnitude ground fault)?

How does an electric switch help in an electric circuit?

A switch is a means of making (on) or breaking (off) an electrical circuit.

Why has the current season of eggheads been taken off air?

The current season of Eggheads is still running on BBC2. According to the official Twitter, the next episode is on September 26th.

What is the difference between a parallel circuit and a series circuit?

A parallel circuit is one in which there is more than one current path. An example might be several light bulbs in a house, all of which provide a path for electric current. The advantage is that any of the lamps can be turned on or off without affecting the current flow through any other lamp. A series circuit is one in which the current has only a single path through multiple components. An example might be two resistors, one after the other. Both will have the same current through them but they may have varying voltages depending on their resistance. Another example of a series circuit is a houehold lamp and a light switch. When the light switch is open, no current flows through it and therefore, no current can flow through the lamp either. When the switch is closed, current will now flow through the switch and the lamp.

What is the difference if a switch is before or after a bulb in a circuit?

It is a safety concern. With the switch before the bulb, the bulb is completely isolated from the potential source when the switch is turned off. With the switch behind the bulb, even if the switch is turned off, the potential source is still at the bulb. If any of these lamp holder parts touch the ground when removing the bulb the circuit will short out and trip the breaker. If you are grounded and touch any of the lamp holder parts you will get a nasty shock.

What does forced commutation mean?

The term "Forced commutation" is used when a thyristor is turned off using external components. If a thyristor is used in a DC circuit, when first turned on, it will stay on until the current goes to zero. To turn off the thyristor it is possible to use a Forced commutation circuit. The circuit creates a reverse voltage over the thyristor (and a small reverse current) for a short time, but long enough to turn off the thyristor. A simple circuit consist of a precharged capacitor and a switch (e.g. another thyristor) parallel to the thyristor. When the switch is closed, the current is supplied by the capacitor for a short while. This cause a reversed voltage over the thyristor, and the thyristor is turned off.

How are fuses and switches similar?

A fuse can break the current flowing in a circuit only once whilst a switch can break the current flowing in a circuit many times. In other words a switch can switch the current on and off - and then on again and off again - indefinitely but a fuse can only switch off the current once.

What is a real life example of a step function?

The current flowing through an electric circuit when you flick the switch on or off.

What is happening when a switch is off?

When the light switch is turned on and a light bulb is connected in the circuit a current will flow through the circuit. Likewise when the switch is opened, the current will stop flowing in the circuit.

Why won't a Chevy Impala blower motor turn off?

The switch is out or you have crossed wires-it's still getting current. Use a test light with switch off on hot wire between switch & motor. If there is current, your switch is bad.

The functions of switch?

A switch turns on or off electrical power flowing through a cable or circuit.

What is on load and off load switching?

On load switching is when a switch can be operated whilst current is still passing through the switch (i.e. it is on load) Offload switching is when a switch is operated whilst there is no current through the switch (i.e. it is offload)

Does electricity flow through a light when the light is turned off?

The OFF position on the light switch interrupts the flow of electricity to the light bulb. If the switch is ON, there is always electricity at the light socket, even when the light bulb is removed. if the lamp is still pluged in electricity is still flowing through the lamp even if it is off or on

What is on off switch?

Say it is a power circuit, a light bulb is bright from the battery, flowing through the wires and the light bulb. There is a switch controling the power that goes through, so if you switched the off switch off, the power will no longer be flowing through(the light bulb wouldn't be bright any longer). What is a vibration switch?

it is a switch, current goes through when switch is on and the current doesn't go through when its off you're welcome

What solid state componet can be used as a switch to turn current on or off?

The solid state component that can be used as a switch to turn current on or off is a thyristor.

How does a GFI switch work?

An electric flow-monitoring switch (GFI switch) detects the difference between the entering and exiting current. So, it is concluded that if the breaker detects some difference then it indicates that the current is flowing through an undesirable path like water or a person is the case, so, it cuts off the power immediately, thus preventing the danger.

Will a GFCI outlet trip when the current is reduced or shut off?

The GFCI is measuring leakage current to ground, so if no current is flowing it won't trip.
