This is because there is either more fuel to oxygen; too rich a mixture, or more oxygen to fuel; too lean a mixture. To get the mix precisely correct may be theoretically possible but would lead to a very expensive, complex engine management system as the air being introduced for each fireing of each cylinder would have to be analysed for it's number of oxygen molecules and the number of molecules of petrol matched. Air is more dense in colder weather, leading to more oxygen in each cc3 of air introduced to the cylinder and petrol is not going to be precisely the same throughout either. The aim of engine designers is to get a close match which results in an efficient as possible engine without too high a cost to the end user.
The four-stroke engine used in automobiles is an example of an internal combustion engine.
There are two main types of combustion. These are complete, in which the reactant burns in oxygen producing a few reactions, such as carbon dioxide and water. Incomplete combustion occurs when there is not enough oxygen to complete a reaction.
For example the preparation of caramel can be considered an incomplete combustion.
Internal combustion refers to an engine were the combustion process takes place inside the engine. The cylinders in question are an internal portion of the cylinder block which houses the crankshaft, connecting rods and the pistons which move up and down in the cylinder drawing in the air fuel mixture, are forced down by the combustion process, and push the spend fuel charge out of the cylinder at the end of the cycle. An example of an external combustion engine would be a steam engine where the combustion takes place in a boiler external to the engine and the steam generated by the boiler is used to motivate the engine.
Incomplete combustion in an engine indicates that all of the fuel has not been burnt. Incomplete combustion can cause clogging and damage to the valves in the engine of a car.
a gasoline engine is an Internal combustion engine
Internal combustion engine.
and internal combustion engine and a gasoline engine are the same thing.
Reciprocating engines (piston engines) are internal combustion engines. Rotary engines ( Wankel engine) is also an internal combustion engine. In general, all types of engines in which the combustion chamber is an integrating part of the engine is considered a internal combustion engine.
in internal combustion engine combustion happens internally in cylinder and in external combustion engine combustion happens externally in boiler

combustion engine
In an internal combustion engine fuel is burned in a combustion chamber or cylinder inside the engine
The waste products of combustion leave the internal combustion engine through the exhaust valve.
The internal combustion engine give rise to the auto industry.
