Unfortunately, it still does exist in India, but most of it is concentrated in rural areas void of access even to electricity. In cities, people treat each other completely as equals but inter-caste marriage can still cause tensions between families. All in all, it is similar to racism: Racism still exists in rural places as Alabama, Mississippi in the US and inter-racial dating is still not as accepted today. And there are always exceptions, say cities like Chicago that are race-segregated. But all-in-all, America still got a Black president!

People are metured enough to feel the caste system is nothing important day to day life. But the problem is with politicians, they can not survive with out caste, religion and religious system.
