It's wrong to stereotype any group of people. Stereotyping perpetuates myths and ignorance. It also prohibits getting to really know people as individuals. For the American Indian, stereotyping can be hurtful (as in sports teams logos), it stops people from understanding that American Indians history, culture, beliefs, looks, living conditions, language etc. vary from tribe to tribe and even clan to clan. There IS no real standard for who the American Indian is.
Because it can get to some people and hurt them. Also just because they listen yo something different, look different, or do something different doesn't mean they don't have feelings. Stereotyping and Labelling is not a cool thing to do. If example if someone is a cheerleader it is assumed that they are a whore, slut but that's not true or if someone wears black clothing the are called 'emo' or gothic' which they probably not
Stereotyping is the same thing as generalizing.
When you stereotype you assume that everyone in a particular group, whether it be categorized by religion, ethnicity, region, gender or whatever as all being the same instead of seeing the people within these groups as individuals.
By assuming what someone is like based on their nationality, creed, culture, etc... you fail to get to know them for who they really are.
Therefore, not only is stereotyping wrong, it is also inaccurate.
It is important not to stereotype because you never know what you can learn from that person you have decided not to take interest in because of their external experience. Everyone is unique, some are evil and some are good. It makes no sense to put them into groups when everyone is an individual.
Incomplete information and incorrect conclusions are what is wrong about relying upon stereotypes. Stereotypes draw upon simplified generalizations which at their best emphasize some facts, ignore others, and neglect individual differences or the possibility for change.
because it can hurt some1s feelings badly duhhh(:
African Americans as happy but lazy slaves APEX
A 'stereotype' is a typical example of a person or thing and is generally meant as a bad example of type. A racial stereotype is the common misconception that all Americans are loud or that all Swedish people are blond.
i think that the stereotype that girls are burden on their parents because this may would make them angry and sad. so if parents think there daughters are burden on them they are wrong and this affect the life of a daughter.
The stereotype would be the 'normal type' or point-of-reference that all other individuals would be measured against. For example: He was the stereotypical high school bully save for the fact that he was fascinated with flowers and objects of art of a disturbingly Raphealian era. In a scientific real the stereotype would be referred to as a control sample.
Ethnic stereotypes were common. The Germans, Czechs, Greeks Russians and the Irish were viewed as the tools of the saloon and the brewers. Saloons and foreigners went hand-in-hand in this stereotype at the time. African Americans were also portrayed as drinkers. :)
You are asking the wrong question. It should be how did American policy affect Native Americans.
All Americans always stereotype!
They were taking over the native Americans land. If you think this is wrong, please edit it (only if you're signed up).
All humans and Indigenous populations have lived in harmony with nature until the modern world.
