Weed AKA marijuana, is illegal in many countries because it is a culturally 'taboo' drug.

A drug is defined as any substance that can cause a change in the body.

Technically, Caffeine and Tylenol are also drugs, but because the effects are more mild on the body, there are less restrictions.

Weed can cause mild hallucinogenic effects, impair driving, impair judgment etc... and over time can actually make your brain process information more slowly (in other words it can make you 'stupider')

Marijuana is pretty much as harmful/harmless as alcohol.

In actuality, it is less damaging to the brain then alcohol (less brain cells die) and the THC in marijuana is effective as a medicine.

Cannabis is an amazing plant. It is useful in medicine, food, textiles, construction, and can even be grown as a renewable source of energy. When used as a drug, it is extremely safe. Nobody has ever died directly from consuming marijuana. Also, smoking it does not cause lung cancer like smoking tobacco does. So why is this plant illegal?

Drug law has been shaped by special interests, Propaganda, and fear of minority groups. In its early days in the United States, marijuana was associated with Mexican immigrants. People thought that Mexicans were smoking marijuana, and then committing violent crimes. Based on this lie and racial prejudice, marijuana became illegal.

William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper baron, was one of marijuana's biggest opponents. Why? Because hemp paper threatened the wood-pulp paper industry, in which he was heavily invested.

Now, drug policy stems from a culture still manipulated by special interests. The pharmaceutical industry enjoys a monopoly on drugs. Any medicinal herb that grows in the garden is a threat to their bottom line. Similarly, the law enforcement and prison industries depend on the incarceration of non-violent drug users.

Marijuana is legal in fourteen American states. And it shouldn't be legal because crack-pots will smoke it and get themselves high all the time.

Marijuana can treat some forms of cancer and tumors. So therefore it's only to be given to those in need to the medical treatment, nobody else.

I believe the word crack pot is a bad term for this

Actually, the only real problem with pot is that it can become a bad habit.

When some people get a hold of it they may do some bad things, but that is because of a lack of self control or behavior issues, because in reality we wouldn't have a lower class that smokes pot if people were smart enough to know what's wrong and right. But pot doesn't make you dumb, in fact, if you're in developing adolescent years and you have problem knowing what is what, pot will most likely open your eyes to the real world, and if you think too much or have identity issues pot can also help you where logic fails. I'm not saying that it cant be dangerous what so ever. I'm just saying that the most probable reason it's illegal is because some person did something offensive with it or went and whined about it; moms, dads, schools, etc...

The basic motive for making marijuna illegal in the United States is a belief that it is not healthy for people to use drugs which cause a feeling of euphoria, because chemically induced happiness can become a substitute for actual accomplishment in life.

The ultimate reason dates back to a long time ago back in the Industrial Era - where even alcohol got a prohibition. The reason goes back into racism - despite what the other claims are such as pharmaceutical companies making it illegal, or tree paper companies killing hemp. This is not the case - an ex-DEA agent has indeed confirmed the main reason for marijuana being illegal is due to Mexican immigrants during the Industrial Era. At the time, we were very hateful towards the Mexicans, and we weren't too happy about them taking American jobs. We responded by taking away the drug which they were commonly associated with - marijuana. It would be the equivalent of Americans taking jobs in Britain and then Britain outlawing alcohol.

It also has to do with the same reason they outlawed alcohol, where they intended for us to be strictly for work, and they didn't want someone to come to work drunk, or have a hangover at work. This same thing was applied to marijuana.
