seat belts are designed to snap in the event of an accident at 40-mph. Most accidents do not happen at 40-mph because you slam on the brakes. A set belt would protect you from flying forward after slamming on the brakes or incase the air bag is not working.

Is it safest to use a seatbelt and airbag together?

Yes, it is safest to use yourseat belt and airbag together. In fact, airbags are designed to only be used with seat belts. They are not designed to protect you if you are not using a belt. An airbag is even dangerous to use without a seat belt. Using a seat belt without an airbag is not dangerous, it just doesn't give you that extra protection. Not using an airbag is only advised if an underage (under 13 years by SRS recommendation) passenger is sitting in the seat.

What does airbag code 33?

depend on year and make of your Vehicle. if late model Ford/Lincoln, it means your driver side "seat belt pretensionor". (There is small bomb in seat belt retractor related with airbag) if early model Ford/Lincoln (and maybe some GM), it means passenger side airbag "System" Don't take it lightly as "Oh, it's just seat belt pretensionor. Airbag still fine". your airbag may not deploy to avoid injured by airbag, if something malfunctioned with pretensionor.

It is safe for a driver to rely on the airbag deployment alone to protect him against serious injury and therefore does not have to wear his seat belt?

Absolutely not! Airbags are only a supplemental restraint system and are intended to be used in conjunction with a seat belt. Relying on an airbag alone may cause massive injury or have fatal results. The most important factor in not having an accident is yourself, the driver. If you are a reckless speed merchant and hit another car coming towards you, your seat belt and airbag may not be sufficient to prevent your death.

What do you do if you have a child in the front seat and there is airbags?
