Not 100% sure here but i believe it is to reflect the sun back towards the panel to double the efficiency by making use of both sides of the panel.

Where is solar panels used most in Australia?

The earth is protected from u-v radiation by the ozone layer. It helps in deflecting most of these solar rays back. But a hole has been formed in it just above Australia. This allows more solar energy to come into the atmosphere of the Earth. So more the energy, more the solar panels, and more the usage.

Why do people install solar panels?

Solar panels have a few advantages. The most obvious one is that it's environmentally friendly. Solar panels produce no waste, and so they don't pollute the atmosphere and the environment like fossil fuels do. Another related advantage is that solar energy isn't going away any time soon, as opposed to fossil fuels, which can be depleted. Then there are economic advantages. Solar panels are more cost-effective if you can afford the initial investment, and some people can even sell power back to the power company! Relatedly, having solar panels means you don't need to be connected to power lines. This is especially important in rural places where the infrastructure for power lines hasn't been built yet. In the end, people use solar panels for two reasons: saving the environment and saving money.

Why are solar panels so important?

Solar panels are important because they don't cause pollution, and they can increase the production of electricity in the world. Another Answer: Solar panels, as of today, produce virtually non of our annual power needs. I also are far from being a pollution free device. There is a variety of very nasty chemicals and gases used to make these panels. They rarely supply as much power as it takes to construct one. They do however, have some very useful applications where they work well. 1. Space. The power they produce can be very useful in keeping our satellites supplied with power. 2. Remote applications. Power far from the grid is needed and solar is a quiet method of getting small amounts of power 3. Back up applications. When the grid fails, solar panels can supply quiet limited power. It is hoped that solar panels will become more powerful and useful as the technology develops. Until then they still have a working location in our world.

What is the expense of solar panels?

It depends how many panels you have installed. In the UK, A typical house would need 20 panels - to produce 240 volts. Costs vary according to the company, but £15,000 is about the cost including installation. Recouping the cost (by feeding unused power back into the national grid) can take 15 years or more.

What are examples of solar satellites?

In one sense all the planets are solar satellites, that is, they orbit the sun, just as the moon is Earth's satellite. So Mars, Venus, Earth and all the planets are solar satellites. In another sense a solar satellite could be any of Earth's artificial satellites, because most of them use solar panels to generate the electricity they need to keep sending data back to Earth.

Why ia a silver surface used at the back of the solar panel?

The silver surface is there to reflect the heat back on to the solar panel. thats if any heat has gone through the solar panel

What are the uses of solar panels in your day-to-life?

You can put solar panels on your roof to generate electricity from the sun. This can be stored in batteries or fed back into the grid.

Why is the back of solar panels insulated?

To keep heat energy from emiiting out of the object

Does a pool pump work harder when solar panels are added?

Pool Pumps are designed and built to work hard. You may create some additional back pressure by adding solar panels. as long as the pump is sufficient to fill the solar panels with water you should have no harm done by adding solar to your pool

Do solar cars use petrol?

yes, they have a reserve of petrol as a back up but they do not use much as they are solar powered. their main power comes from the solar panels.

How long does it take to get your money back from solar panels?

It depends on the price of electricity in your area, as well as the original cost of the panels. However, panels are becoming cheaper each year and the standard time to get your money back is now around three years.

What are the advantages of installing solar panels for a home?

If someone installs solar panels on their home then they will benefit from cheaper energy when the weather is good. They will also get a rebate sometimes on their power bills if they generate enough power to feed back into the grid.

Why are black metal sheets used in solar panels?

black color or dark colors absorb more sunlight and light colors reflect back sunlight. so in order to produce solar energy black color panels are used so that more and more sunlight gets absorbed in the panels.

Who was the first president to put solar panels on the white house?

Jimmy Carter was first to have solar panels put on the roof. Then Ronald Reagan had them removed in order to repair the roof and they were not put back. George W, Bush had new solar panels installed elsewhere to heat a maintenance building and the swimming pool . Obama's secretary of energy announced that solar panels would be put on the White House roof to heat water there.

What problems prevent solar powered cars from becoming popular?

The initial purchase price of the car would be pretty high. The limited range of the car due to the inefficiency of the solar panels and the solar panels would have to be huge in order to move a street legal car with all the safety equipment that would be required. The replacement cost of the solar panels as they wear or break. Another would be if it's 100% solar with no battery back-up then your limited to day light driving only.
