I don't fully understand what's in it for China. Even HH. the Dalai Lama has said that he doesn't fully understand the Chinese mind. China doesn't care about their own people, or anyone else's. They don't care about animals. Money? Don't be so sure. The Goldmud-Lhasa railway has been described by the Chinese as a "political not commercial" venture. Meaning basically that they're doing it to make life a misery for Tibetans, and they don't care how much money they may lose. So what, precisely, DOES China care about? Your guess is as good as mine, because this is a definite grey area for me and others. Answer Dalai Lama is a theological figure but it doesn't mean that he has the same authority over political issues. When involving in Politics, his opinion may not represent the Supreme Being. Why not give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God? After all, for government or religion, the most important is to bring people a better life. Endless quarrel will harm both and leave people to live in misery.
