Lord Montague is the father of Romeo. At the start of the play he is concerned for his son who is in a melancholy mood. However, he cannot communicate effectively with him and asks his nephew Benvolio to speak with Romeo on his behalf. Despite being involved in the fight in the streets at the beginning of the play, by the end, he agrees to make amends with the Capulets and to raise a statue in honour of Juliet.

They are not particularly important. It would be easy to cut them out of the play and still have a coherent dramatic whole. Montague provides a balance to Capulet both when they both try to get into the fight in Act 1 and when they reconcile in Act 5. The death of Lady Montague adds a little extra sorrow at the end of the play (but not much, because we hardly see her). They serve these functions but they are far from important.

Which family is Tybalt from in Romeo and Juliet?

Tybalt is associated with the Capulets, and he thinks of himself as a Capulet, but he is actually not a Capulet at all. He is the son of Lady Capulet's brother, and Lady Capulet is only a Capulet by marriage. That is why it is Lady Capulet, and not Lord Capulet, who is so furious with Romeo after he kills Tybalt.
