Under the "Old Covenant" (Old Testament) The Jews offered animal sacrifices, But when Jesus Christ came into the world and was crucified on the cross of Calvary, and was buried, and was risen the third day, He ushered in the "New Covenant" (See Jeremiah 31:31). The church began fifty days (Pentecost) after the Passover when Jesus was crucified. The animal sacrifices stopped for the people who had accepted Jesus as their Savior. In the Book of Romans, 12:1, Paul tells us that we are to offer or present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy, acceptable to God. What is meant by this is that Christians are to live holy lives and prepare themselves and be ready to serve God wherever and whenever He calls on them for service. That is our sacrifice for God. We are to serve Him.
