The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a standard plug/socket means to connect devices to a computer. It is not able to open any kind of document.
To open a Word document you will need Microsoft's Word software or some compatible software. It should be noted that Microsoft changes the format of Word docs between versions of their software and there can be incompatibility between docs from diverse versions.
On a Mac the TextEdit application can open basic Word doc files. Apple's Pages software (part of the iWork suite) can work with Word docs. Other options include the free Open Office software which provides a high level of compatibility with Word. (See links below)
"doc." stands for Document and it is a type of file. It can open Microsoft Word or Word on a Mac.
If the document from the Mac has been saved in a format recognised by Word then it can be opened by Word. There are variations in different versions of Word which means that sometimes even Word cannot open a Word document.
It all depends on what you are downloading. Sometimes it is best to leave it at the default for what the mac thinks it should open the download in. If it is a text document, open it with Word.
If the Mac has Word installed it can read a Word .doc file - although there are variations between different versions of Word which may cause problems. Even without Word the Mac's TextEdit application can read basic .doc files. There are free applications, such as Open Office (or Neo Office), which provides a high level of compatibility with Word. If the document is only to be read, and not edited on the Mac, then saving it as a .pdf will ensure that the Mac sees the document, with all its formatting, as intended.
drag to trash
go to "word"then "preferences..."then, on the left hand side, select "save"and enter a password so that only you can open the document. you can also set a password to modify, so that if you want to add information to the document, you can.
You can't exactly edit pub files on a Mac, but you can convert the file to PDF.
XMind has a facilty in it now to export to Word on a Mac.
If both the Mac and PC versions of Word are recent then there should not be any need to convert the document. You can send it as an email attachment. However there are incompatibilities between versions of Word which may cause problems. If this is the case you could try sending the document in Rich Text Format - .RTF rather than .doc or, if the recipient is only reading and not editing the document, save it as a ,pdf and send that.
The document will need to be saved from the Mac's Word 2011 in a format that can be read by Word 2007. Microsoft are a law unto themselves and ignore standards and even their own established standard formats. Word 2007 was particularly problematical.
Only if you have an application on your MAC that is compatible with Excel and Word files. Most word processor programs have a way to import MS Word files and most spreadsheet programs can open MS Excel files. The best way to find out if your MAC has that capability is to try to open a file and see what happens.
you need to have a program on your mac that can open doc files. an example of a program that can open Doc files is...Openoffice (This program is free) or Pages (not free) for mac.
