Google Earth has tools you could use. You can type in an address and see the actual place, or you can search the world yourself by spinning the globe and zooming into locations.

Also, click the link below for more on how it's done!

Additionally

Google Earth provides access to vast amounts of global satellite, aerial and street-level imagery that Google makes available to the public through high-end enterprise-grade data servers in Google's data centers. The Google Earth client basically acts as a specialized web browser that shows the results on a map and "bookmarks" or "favorites" are called Places.

Google Earth is a software application, and like most software it can stop working by freezing or crashing. Why a particular instance of Google Earth stops working depends on a number of things including the OS platform (e.g. Windows), version of Google Earth (7.1.1, 6.2.2, etc), type of hardware/drivers, etc.

Google provides help on how to troubleshoot the common problems of Google Earth on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. Visit a help center web site or click "Help" in Google Earth Help menu.

Google recently stopped support for Street View in versions of Google Earth older than 6.0. This means that Google Earth 5.1, 5.2, and older no longer access the Street View layer.

Google announced that with the most recent update to Google Earth (6.2), it finalized the transition to a new method of delivering Street View imagery in Google Earth and dropped the older method of delivery in older versions of Google Earth (anything before 6.0).

Download the latest Google Earth version to access the Street View imagery and other new features at related link below.

Note the new preview version of Google Maps had removed the Orange "pegman" icon used to activate Street View, which made many users report that Street View was broken. The "pegman" icon has been recently added back due to popular demand.

Google Earth contains millions of pictures, and advanced 3D images. It takes a long time to load, and is hard work. It takes a very advanced computer to not run slow.

Answer #2

Actually Google Earth efficiently accesses many terabytes of imagery and layered content (e.g. roads, country boundaries, etc.). Google Earth runs reasonably well even on a slow/old computer but if you try to display many layers at once then Google Earth is simultaneously making a number of concurrent network connections and fetching the content. Likewise if try to load large KML files and/or have all your saved placed visible then you're using more computer resources (e.g. memory) than you probably need.

If running slowly then uncheck some of the layers and your saved places.

Google Earth can be slow if there are too many layers and places visible at the same time. First uncheck all layers and places then see if Google Earth still behaves slowly.

Next, clear your disk cache. Doing that often makes things return to normal. Option to do that can be found in Tools/Options/Cache menu and clicking "Clear disk cache".

Another performance problem is when the saved places gets too large. Not only does a large saved places file delay Google Earth when starting up, but this large file needs to be written to disk every time there is a change. Try to trim the size of the saved places and save large parts of it to disk then remove it from saved places.

If Google Earth fails to run, crashes, etc. then the first thing to do is visit the Google Support web site and check out the 'Fix My Problem' web page for Google Earth.

Google provides help for each operating systems (Windows, Mac, and Linux) and gives help specific to that platform.

If all else fails download and install the latest Google Earth software. Note that uninstalling and reinstalling does NOT overwrite your saved places.

Check that you have 'Show terrain' option checked in Tools / Options / 3D View panel.
