If you can lift the wires up where the cat can't reach them that would be the best way. Other ways are getting wire casing from a hardware store (those are hard and the cat won't be able to chew through them as quick) or you could try putting something like Cayenne Pepper on the wires. Cats usually don't like the taste and will stop but it won't hard your cat either

∙ 13y agodo not put any type of tape on the wires as it is non-toxic and is bad for hamsters. What I got from the pet store because my hamster was chewing on the bars is wood blocks. They chew on the wood blocks and it actually makes its teeth healthy and clean and is a good cure for your hamster to stop chewing on bars. You can get it from a nearby pet supply or pet store or online at Amazon.com

∙ 14y agoStated simply, you can't. If your hamster is near any wires i would suggest you make sure he can not get to them. Wires can be lethal to any pet if if it is consumed.

It might be that your hamster is simply not aggressive at all, or on the other hand it could be that it's too weak to defend itself because it's ill. It would be best to take the hamster to the vet's just in case to see there's nothing wrong with it.

I would take my hamster to the vet. He could find out exactly what is going on. But to me, it sounds as if your hamster has a tumor in it's stomach. It can be very painful, and your hamster will stop eating, and it will stop using the restroom. But like I said, you should go talk to your local vet.
