The growing plant requires photosynthesis, without light photosynthesis is unable to take place. Plants feed off photosynthesis as they consume Carbon Dioxide and Water, with these things they are able to produce chlorophyll using their chloroplasts and light, which hence enables them to produce glucose and Oxygen gas which we require to balance the Carbon Dioxide intake with the Oxygen intake.

What are some cool ideas for a science project?

One origional science project is: growing a few plants, and with each plant put the light in a different area (ie: plant one gets the growing light on top, plant two gets the light on bottom, and plant three gets the light on the side). You can determine if the plants actually grow toward the light.

What happens when plants don't get enough light?

It depends on what kind of plant it is. Some need light, but some don't need a lot. But if they don't have light, then they won't be able to make food, so they won't be able to grow. Because the electromagnetic energy (the sun) turns into chemical energy (the plant growing).

Does light effect the direction of growth of a plant?

Plants need light and they will grow towards where they receive an optimal amount; plants will face where the light is. You can experiment on your own by growing your own plant and using a desk lamp as the light source. As the plant grows, it will lean towards and face the light source directly.

What does a metal halide light do to a plant?

Metal-halide light is helpful for plant growth and is often used for indoor plant growing applications. Metal-halide lights produce blue-frequency light. They can provide the temperature , as well as the spectrum of light that encourages plant growth.
