In your case the cell phone was probably dead, and would only turn on when it was charging. I suggest leaving the cell phone plugged in for a couple hours before using the cell phone again.

∙ 9y agoIt may be that the battery has to be recharged, that it is getting old (and thus can hold no more charge), or that it has a faulty connection.
