There is a fuel pressure test port right behind the throttle body. Borrow, rent or buy a fuel pressure gauge and see if the fuel pressure is building. If not, fuel pump failure is common after the vehicle gets a few miles on it. You could TRY the filter but that's probably not the problem.
If you're building pressure, run a computer diagnostic to see if the computer has detected a problem.

Is there a certain way to postition the crank sensor on a 97 k1500?

Located behind the starter. Have to take starter off to get to it.

That year did not use a crankshaft sensor. It used an ignition module.
The 5.3 liter Vortec Engine on the 2000 Chevy Silverado has a tapered crank shaft. The crank pulley has no woodruff key, is not indexed and is pressed on.
Use the Square end of the jank crank rod. I had the same problem
Its a hand crank protruding from the front. When winding be careful not to dislocate your thumbs
First you need to get a really really big metal crank, usually looks like a key, to insert into the front of the vehicle... No, no wait, my bad that was a 1903 Chevy Silverado. No, but really, they don't crank. They turn over. And if that's the case, it's probably your starter, you can go buy a Chilton's Auto Manual and do it yourself, or you can take it to your local mechanic.
