Water is a polar molecule (is a dipole, has a positive end and a negative end), hexane is a non-polar molecule. Like dissolves like. Water will dissolve other polar molecules, like HCl and NH3. Hexane will dissolve non-polar molecules like benzene or toluene.

Hexane is a non-polar molecule and water is a polar molecule. Thus, they do not mix since polar molecules mix with polar ones and non-polar molecules mix with non-polar ones.

Hexane separated and don't mixed with water because water is polar and hexane is non polar so it cannot dissolve in it.

Would sodium chloride and hexane form a solution?

No, they would not form a solution.

Does iodine dissolve in hexane?

water is a polar molecule, hexane is non polar. substances with like polarities mix, therefore the non polar iodine mixes with hexane and not water

In which is KNO3 soluble benzene hexane or water?

Potassium nitrate is soluble in water, as it is an ionic solid. When dissolved in water, potassium nitrate will form an aqueous solution of potassium and nitrate ions.

What substance will form a solution when mixed with sodium chloride?

There are at least thousands if not millions of them, with hexane being a common example.

Is Ammonium chloride soluble in hexane?

Solubility is the property of a solute to dissolve in a solvent to form a homogeneous solution. The rule "like dissolves like" is used in terms of solubility. Urea is polar while hexane is non-polar, thus urea is not soluble in hexane.

The purpose of adding hexane to the aqueous solutions of halogens?

to indicate the changes of colour and to determine whether displacement of halogen occur

Hexane solube in water?

Yes. If you put water and hexane in a beaker or a container together, the hexane will be on top of the water. One way to see this is to dye the water. They do not mix because water is polar and the hexane cannot dissolve in it. It is on top because, guess why? It is less dense than water. That is why anything floats on water... it is less dense! Hope that answers your question!

Which is the hexane layer?

In a Halide Test, you can add an unknown solution into a test tube and add hexane solution plus several other solutions called by the procedure. Shake the test tube and record the upper hexane layer. So the answer would be hexane is present in the upper layer.

Is hexane acidic or alkaline?

Neither. Acidic and alkaline are terms that refer to pH, and pH is only used for aqueous solution. Hexane is NOT soluble in water, and as such, pH is not relevant.

Example of liquid in liquid solution?

All the miscible liquids may form the solutions as 1-Alcohol in water, 2-Hexane in benzene, 3-acetone in ethyl acetate etc.
