What does appear - and I believe it to be the verse people misquote when they say "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away" is this....
- Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
What has happened is that the past tense of the verse has been altered to the 'present continuous' tense - to describe the ongoing nature of the Lord's actions.
