God claims the tithe is His.

LEVITICUS 27:30 NKJ

30 `And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's. It is holy to the Lord.

The New Testament says nothing to change God's instruction on tithing. The tithe is holy and still belongs to God.

Tithing is worship of the Lord.

Tithing is worship. It has always been more than just a tax. Tithing is recognition and worship of the One Who created and actually owns all. Worshiping God in a prescribed manner has existed since the Garden of Eden.

Giving based on need is not Biblical tithing but giving of alms. (It is not worship but a good work.) Tithing is not to meet God's need (or the church's needs), but to worship God: to put Him in His rightful place: first!

Tithing is God's method of supporting His ministry. A blessing is promised if you do.Tithing is a continual reminder God is your source. Tithing helps combat selfishness, greed, and materialism. Why Christians Do Not Tithe

In the Christian Faith, tithing is considered a form of worship and set forth in The Bible. The act of giving back a portion to God what He gave us shows Him our humility and reverence to Him as well as our respect for Him in doing what He has asked.

Additional Info:

Actually biblical tithing is not a part of the Christian faith. It is an ancient Jewish religious ritual. According to the Bible, the only ancient Israel was required to pay tithes. Tithing is one of the 613 commandments ancient Israel had to follow as part of their covenant with God.

Jesus fulfilled the Law. So practices such as tithing are not required. Christians are under the New Testament. And under the New Testament voluntary, Spirit-led giving is encouraged. Therefore, Christians can give whatever you want. In other words their giving is not limited to money.

You pay your tithe to the church but who does the church tithe to according to the Bible?

When you pay your tithe to the church, they only hold it in trust for God. It is He who says how it will be spent. Unfortunately, because most church ministers do not have any regular employment except as religious leaders. the churches High Council steal part of the tithing to pay the ministers wages. They excuse this stealing because their ministers are (Employed) by the church and so deserve a wage.

A tax paid to the church?

A church which places a tax upon its members is not a church I would wish to belong to. It would be like saying "If you want to belong to the church you will have to pay to get in". Any monies paid by the congregation for the upkeep of the church or to pay the minister salary is done voluntary and the monies are not set by the church. One may pay a tithe but that is set by the Lord, usually one tenth of members income. To pay a tithe is a blessing, to be taxed is of Satans doing. A regular voluntary contribution is inevitable for the maintenance of the church and the sustenance of those who fully engaged in church works.

How much should you pay the church?

The Bible commands a 10% tithe. I've always been taught, if you tithe on your net income (take home pay) then you need to tithe on your tax return. However, if you tithe on your gross income, there is no need to tithe on your tax return. I say, pray on it and follow the lead your given.
