Remember what the scientists say is a universal law anywhere in the cosmos. There is no such thing as cold, only a lesser degree of heat. Heat always tries to move to a area of lesser heat. Sort of a universal yen/yang sort of thing. Everything including heat always tries to find a balance.

The same with volcanoes on earth. If the interior of the earth is hotter than the surface it will naturally try to find the path of lest resistance and move to the surface.

We, personally, do not need volcanoes. A volcano usually forms when pressure from the semi-molten magma below finds its way upwards through a weakness in the crust. Overtime the eruptions of lava builds up into a typical volcanic cone. If the weakness occurs under the sea, a new volcanic island may form. - the Hawaii chain of volcanic islands is an example.

We need volcanoes because the carbon dioxide that comes out of one could be vital importance to life when there are problem to do with ice ages, cold snow storms and so on.

The Earth has volcanoes as a method of cooling itself off. These volcanoes act as vents that release molten material and hot air.
